USA.gov: A Portal to Reliable Information

USA.govFrom an insert in a mailing I received today from the U.S. General Services Administration/Federal Citizen Information Center:

“The government wears many hats when it comes to services and benefits.” USA.gov is “the official portal for all federal, state and local government information.”

USA.gov is a robust website full of reputable government information, but this site isn’t just for social studies classes. On the landing page one can view government information by topic or click on one of the “citizen audience” links: Teens, Parents, Teachers and Educators, and Job Seekers are just a few of the choices.

On the Teens page, resources range from a fuel cost calculator to learning resources for math, science, history, art and more, to health and safety tips for prom. Other items of interest include information about student scholarship scams, tanning, and a personal greenhouse gas emission calculator.

For Teachers and Educators, there are links to lesson plans and other curricular resources (over 50,000 educational resources searchable in an online catalog); geography; reference center; science sources from the U.S. Geological Survey; and a Library of Congress Learning Page for Teachers (complete with more lesson plans and professional development information)–to name just a few.

The next time you’re wondering where to go on the Internet for reliable information, wander over to USA.gov.
